Whether it’s your first time on rock or maybe you are already a competent climber looking for some coaching or wanting to push your grade, we have a day and venue to suit.
The lake district is blessed with many different crags offering both single pitch & multi pitch climbing, in an atmospheric setting.
Most of these courses can be run from anywhere in the UK. If you would like to climb elsewhere then let me know. Maybe it’s a specific climb you would like to do, or maybe Wales is more convienient for you, whatever we can factor it in.
Introduction to Climbing
Designed to suit a beginner to rock climbing, so no climbing experience is necessary. The day will involve looking at the basics needed to start out in climbing, & of course climbing as much rock as we can throughout the day. Some topics covered will be – Climbing techniques and styles, equipment choice and how to use it, good book and crag orientation. All equipment is provided.
From Indoor to Outdoor
This is aimed at those people who so far have done most climbing on an indoor wall and now feel that they want to venture outdoors but are not entirely sure what happens when they do. We will cover the essentials needed for moving outside onto real rock.
Multi Pitch Climbing
This is available for beginners through to seasoned climbers. Some climbing experience is advisable, the Introduction to Climbing course is ideal. These are our most popular climbing days; for the beginner you get to experience longer climbs in environments you want to try but perhaps need the experience of ‘what to do’. You are shown the basics whilst getting on as much rock as possible! For the more advanced climber we will explore the skills needed for multi pitch climbing and can look to push your grade.
Classic Climb days
Is what it says, climbs classic climbs suggested by me, or maybe one you’ve always wanted to have a go at? Whatever it is/where ever it is, we can discuss & go from there. Some classic Lake District climbs include:
Little Chamonix-Shepherds Crag Borrowdale-70m VD
Troutdale Pinnacle-Black Crag Borrowdale-105m Severe
Giants Crawl-Dow Crag Coniston-115m D
Eliminate A-Dow Crag Coniston-107m VS
Needle Ridge-Great Gable-114m VD
Bridge’s Route-Esk Buttress Eskdale-71m HS
Moss Gill Grooves-Scafell-79m MVS
Sea Cliff Climbing
These days are designed for climbers who lead climb or second to a VS standard & would like to but possibly so far haven’t ventured out onto the costal sea cliffs. We will most likely use the beautiful Welsh sea cliffs for our climbing, Gogarth or Pembroke, but can venture to a different location.
Learning to Lead
This is for those people who are at the stage of wanting to lead climb outdoors, or for people who may already be lead climbing but may feel they need a little extra help when it comes to placing gear on the lead, or better & improved ways of builiding & constructing belays when at the stance. Even if you have been climbing for years I will guarantee you will come away with some new skills and hopefully even gain experience to push your climbing grade.
Improvised Rescues & Advanced Rope Work
Ever been on a crag or a route and wondered ‘what would I do if it all went wrong?’ – well here’s where you learn some of the ‘nuts & bolts’ needed for these types of emergencies. We will go through the stages of how to rescue a climbing partner, using a controlled methodical logical approach.
