Lake District Ghyll Scrambling

Lake District Gill Scrambling

We have been running Lake District Gill Scrambling for over 20 years now. In fact when we started there really wasn’t many providers offering this. Now it seems everybody is! Just a point on this, even if you don’t come with us, just make sure people who are taking you have they’re relevant experience and qualifications for the job.

If you do decide to of with Rock n Ridge you can be assured of a warm welcome and plenty of experience.

Lake District Gill Scrambling can be attempted by pretty much anybody and full kit and briefings will be given at every session.

Venues:

We run from a variety of venues in the Lake District. These include but is not the entire list. Church Beck, Stickle Ghyll, Tilberthwaite, Wren, Stoney Croft and occasionally Esk gorge. The last one is by request as it’s such a drive and a mission to get there and walk in. So please ask if this is something your looking for? See Here for more info.Obstacles:

There are plenty of these along the way, each ghyll is different and some are harder than others. The ones above range from easy to mid difficulty and the obstacles range from boulders and trees to get round, rock steps in ascent and descent, waterfalls and jumps. Because for most people its a new experience, just walking in the ghyll can be tricky at first. This takes practice and you’ll soon find your ‘sea legs’! Most if not all of the harder challenges can be attempted or avoided depending on where you are at/feel.

Time:

On average Lake District Gill Scrambling can take anywhere between 1.5/3 hours depending on the group, conditions and gill. We provide all safety equipment, wetsuits etc for your trip. We can accommodate a wide range of clients, abilities and needs. Pricing starts from just £50 based on a group of 3 persons.
