Church Beck:

Church Beck Gorge Scrambling – Church Beck Canyoning

Located in Coniston this exciting canyon is a true classic! Church Beck Canyon runs for about one kilometre, and is a narrow slotted canyon. Firstly your trip starts high up at the Miners bridge. From there a lower down a water fall gets us fully introduced with the Canyon. Generally the Canyon can be run at most water levels. However in high water, we can by pass and we start a little lower down at a more ‘easier’ sedate access point. Because groups are all different, we can accommodate for that and make things easier if needs be.

More where that came from!

Afterwards we continue to the ‘big jump’ Again this can be by passed with a lower off from a handy tree down to a ledge above the Canyon itself. Consequently if your up for it a 3 – 4 metre jump into a narrow slotted pool brings you to water level! Church beck gorge scrambling – church beck canyoning

Another swim across a deep pool, and we are in position for what is most peoples ‘ favourite Moment. The slide. A three metre slab and a similar drop into a plunge pool gets the heart racing! See video. Likewise this can be missed/down climbed if needs be.

Duration:

As soon as we have completed the slide, we keep on heading down and it’s up to us where we want to call it a day. For some that’s enough, for others the urge to carry on is just too much and we press on. Afterwards a Scramble down an easy angled water fall leads to some cool water falls that we can get some great pictures from.

The Canyon in certain lights changes colour, and as a result casts some beautiful light on the canyon walls. From here it’s just a short walk to the path and then the get out.

In addition to Church Beck, we have other options depending on your location and or group abilities.

    Frequently asked questions:

What equipment is provided, and what do I need to bring?

Rock n Ridge will provide – Helmet, Harness, wetsuit, buoyancy aid, and any technical/climbing equipment needed for the activity.

    YOU will need to bring:

Footwear – Walking boots are better but trainers will work.

    Swimwear.

A fleece top or something similar if you have.

Two pairs of longer socks, or better still some thick walking socks.

Pair of shorts if you have.

    A Towel.

    How long will it last?

A half day’s Canyon session will last around about 3 – 4 hours. That said some groups get through it quicker. But we can always take in some of the exciting bits again.

What if the weather is too adverse for our trip?

An alternative date will be set to suit the group. Or a full refund will be given.

    Do I need experience?

In a nutshell, no. We have had all sorts of people/abilities in the Canyons, Gorges and Ghyll’s of the Lake District. Some fitness and a bit of flexibility especially when you have a wetsuit on will be helpful.
