What is Via Ferrata?
So what is Via Ferrata, and what does it mean? Via Ferrata means the ‘Iron Way’ or ‘Klettersteig’ in German. In summary Via Ferrata is rock walking, combined with scrambling by the use of large metal cables that run the length of the course, or mountainside. These cables have been securely fastened to the mountain with large pins. Or in the indoor version they have been securely fixed to anchor points along an artificial wall.
Three Trips to Choose from!
VF Classic:
Firstly the Classic Via Ferrata is called that because it’s just that – a Classic! This award winning activity takes you along the original route of the miners track, which leads to the final summit slopes of Fleetwith Pike – Which if your ticking them is a Wainwright top!?
Not as Scary:
The Classic Lake District Via Ferrata is less challenging than its bigger brother the Extreme. That said it does offer impressive scenery, and gets you into some amazing positions. Terefore for some it will push their comfort zones, and provide a great sense of achievement once completed.
